FUNCTION: URL.getScheme

URL.getScheme(url)

The URL.getScheme function returns the scheme portion of the given absolute or relative URL. If the URL does not contain a scheme portion, an empty string is returned. An invalid URL syntax will cause an invalid to be returned.

The syntax of a URL is: scheme://host:port/path;parameters$query#scheme

You can use the following functions to get the various portions of the URL:
